Note - these instructions apply to versions of iOS prior to iOS 10

To set up a new email account on an iPhone or iPad go to:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account:

  • Your Name:  [the name shown to others when you send them an email]
  • E-mail Address:  [the email address you wish to set up]
  • Password: [the password given for the email address]
  • Description: [is up to you]

(Hit Next)

Select IMAP/POP* along the top (these options are up to you – see below for details);

Incoming Mail Server:

  • Host Name: [the server we gave you (e.g. mail.mydomain.com)]
  • User Name:  [the email address you wish to set up]
  • Password: [the password given for the corresponding email]

Outgoing Mail Server:

  • Host Name: [the server we gave you (e.g. mail.mydomain.com)]
  • User Name:  [the email address you wish to set up]
  • Password: [the password given for the corresponding email]

Then hit Save. An error message may pop up asking 'Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?'. Hit Yes to continue and save the account.

Next, back in ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’ select the new account that you have set up and scroll down to SMTP > Primary Server > In this category:

  • De- select 'Use SSL'
  • Set 'Authentication' to Password
  • and set the 'Server Port' to 26 and press 'Done'.

Go back to the page associated with the account and go to 'Advanced':

  • Select 'Use SSL'
  • Set 'Authentication' to Password
  • and set the 'Server Port' to 993 (if IMAP), or 995 (if POP)

Make sure to press 'Done' to exit the main page.

*IMAP will sync your email across platforms (ie, if you delete email on your phone it will also be deleted on your computer) as it is stored on the server, whereas with POP email all email is handled separately across platforms and is stored locally and deleted from the server once received by the user.
